We are elated to report that our #GivingTuesday contributions last week exceeded $10,000! This means we were able to take advantage of the full $10,000 anonymous match!
Over 30% of our current families gave on Giving Tuesday! This is fantastic! We can’t thank you enough for this significant participation. In addition, we had many alumni, grandparents, friends, faculty, and board members contribute toward our success yesterday.
We truly would not exist without our community. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all the many ways you support and promote The Overfield School. ❤️
We have had a sample of winter, and a taste of spring, in the course of one week at the Overfield. The children wore snow pants, boots, rolled in snow, and slid on ice at the beginning of last week. This weekend brought a thunderstorm, and a sunny spring-like day; even the honeybees were out and about on Sunday. The deer have been coming closer to the toddler building, staying longer and showing less natural fear; it could be the supply of broken pumpkins, corn, and bird food available. I know the toddlers are delighted to see the deer from their wonderful picture window, but do they know how lucky they are?
The Overfield Gathering Place will soon be transformed into a magical woodland setting for our annual Night Tree celebration. The school is abuzz with preparations. The children have been collecting pine cones, nuts, and sticks, as well as drawing, painting, and sculpting works of art inspired by our native animals. All classes are busy stringing popcorn, cheerios, and cranberries, and covering pine cones and corncobs with birdseed. The garlands and treats will be hung from the bushes and trees bordering the school during the Night Tree events. The resident wildlife should enjoy our early winter gifts.
Allen Jones is donating a good portion of our woodland magic for Night Tree this year. He found quite a few nice red cedar trees at his farm, and we thank him very much. Winter officially arrives on December 21st.
We still need a holiday retreat for one of our Overfield guinea pigs. Any family interested in spending the break with one of our small furry friends, please contact the Overfield Office. Go outside and explore! Overfield Naturalist, Deb
The Wine and Wood parent social was a fun time for all involved! The Overfield Family Partnership wants to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who was able to come out and support our school. With your help nearly $500 was raised for OFP!
Special thanks also go out to La Fiesta for donating food, Giacomo’s for a wonderful gift certificate, Harris Jewelers for a beautiful necklace, Olivia Hughes and CVS for their donation of food and drink, and Julia Hobart for some lovely bottles of Prosecco.
Join us in welcoming Jake Lockwood to Overfield for a theater residency January 7-11!
Jake’s twenty-plus years of experience in the entertainment industry have prepared him for virtually any challenge in the theatrical world. As a writer, director and entertainer, Jake has extensive experience in creating and performing exciting and innovative theme park and regional theatre productions. Whether it is musical theatre, physical comedy, puppetry, improvisation or even blowing giant bubbles….if you have seen it on stage, chances are good that Jake has had a creative hand in developing something similar.
Growing up in the theatre with a strong influence of music and dance, Jake is eager to share his passion for the arts with young audiences, creating shows for school tours and devoting time in the schools as an arts integration specialist.
His dedication to story has led Jake in a new direction lately, using his experience to help craft story-lines for multiple clients developing new theme park attractions. He is also pursuing his life-long dream of being produced on Broadway by continuing to work on the scripts of two new plays and a musical.
Interesting side note: Jake is an avid “Do-it-your-self-er” who enjoys making lamps and renovating his family home.
