Many of our teachers will be attending a conference offered by Ohio Voices for Learning this Saturday at the Columbus Museum of Art. Our Studio Artist, Elizabeth Perry, will be one of the featured presenters. We are always looking to increase our knowledge, improve our practice, and connect with other educators in the state of Ohio. This continuous learning is one of the best ways to support the education of the children in our care at Overfield!
March is not leaving like a lion or a lamb… more like a migrating duck … wet with scattered puddles.
Daffodils and wild flowers are up and blooming in the front gardens. The playground reformation is starting to take shape, amazing what magic can happen on a Saturday morning. The children are enjoying their new challenges, thank you to our Overfield family for making this dream a reality.
The children have been busily working and weeding in the vegetable garden this week. We hope to start planting our cold hardy plants the first of next week.
Our honeybees have survived the winter and their numbers are growing daily (by the thousands). We are planning to add another hive to our apiary, thanks to a most appreciated gift from Tom, Erin, Luciana and Zinnia Barsotti. The Overfield children will be preparing and painting hive boxes for the anticipated arrival of the new queen and her court in early May.
There is a pollinator garden workday scheduled for Monday, April 17. Allen Jones will be here with his tractor to install the fence posts he is donating, and erect a 7’5” temporary deer fence to protect the pollinator garden we will be planting from the U.S. Forrest Service. All help is welcome for this worthy project. Enjoy The Spring! -Deb
Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to Nancy Kangas for the time she spent with us at Overfield. What a delight it was to be able to play with words and create poetry these past two weeks. Nancy’s residency was made possible in part by state tax dollars allocated by the Ohio Legislature to the Ohio Arts Council (OAC). The OAC is a state agency that funds and supports quality arts experiences to strengthen Ohio communities culturally, educationally, and economically.
We want to extend a huge thank you to all of the families who donated food during our poetry residency. This always makes the artist feel so welcome, and is greatly appreciated by the teachers as well!
Another thank you to everyone who made it to the celebration of the residency last night. Coming together as a community was the perfect way to end our time with Nancy!
