• Jim McCutcheon Residency and Celebration: The Guitar Man is here! Jim arrived this morning with a van full of stringed instruments, ready to share his love of music with our students. We’ll have a celebration Thursday night, May 14 at 6:00. All Ovefield families are welcome to join this concert and sing-along led by Jim.
  • Grant for Visiting Artists:We’ve just received word that the Altrusa Club of Troy is awarding us a grant to help sponsor the residency. Altrusa raises funds to help those who promote literacy and reading in the community. Studies show that music has been linked to improvements in listening skills, verbal memory, vocabulary, and phonological and phonemic awareness in young learners. We are grateful for the award and pleased to see the link between arts and literacy recognized in this way.
  • Schedule change – no play visits on May 29: Teachers have been rethinking the way we orient children and families to their next year’s experience at Overfield. We are finding that spring play visits are too separated from the beginning of school in the fall to be really successful, so we’re going to change our approach for the ‘15-‘16 school year. We will invite children and families to come visit their classrooms in August, closer to when school starts. Plans are still in the works; you’ll receive more information on this during the summer. In the meantime, there will be no play visits on May 29. Teachers will take students for brief visits to their next year’s classroom during their class time in the next few weeks.
  • Spread the word about Overfield: Enrollment is well underway for next year. We still have some spots open in all classes, and we need your help in getting the word out about our program. Yard signs are available in classrooms this week. If you live in a high traffic area or near lots of young families, please take a sign and put it up in your yard.
  • Open House, May 19, 5:30-7: You can also spread the word by letting people know about our upcoming Open House on Tuesday, May 19th. This is a great opportunity for prospective families to tour our buildings and campus and learn more about our philosophy.
