The Overfield pollinator garden is finally taking off. The thousand plus wildflowers we planted three years ago have re-seeded and spread out. Our organic vegetable garden beds are starting to fill in with a variety of produce. We are all excited. Unwanted, and invasive prickly thistle are popping up everywhere; time and tough garden gloves are needed for its removal.
Our honeybees in the apiary are very busy, and thriving. The Spring Bee Fling on May 2nd was educational and fun. Thanks to everyone who attended and made it possible.
The K-1 class preformed with the Banana Slug Band at Stillwater Prairie last Tuesday. The Overfield students made a major statement about “What Animals Need.” We are very lucky to have a park district that offers top notch nature-based programs for young children.
Friday night was the K-1 annual Night Hike. Each student chose a native animal, researched it, and gave a presentation in a location pertinent to their animals’ habitat; the program was amazing. Toasting marshmallows with guests are tradition, as is the K-1 family camp out, outside the K-1 building. I Love Overfield traditions!
