Congratulations to North Side teacher Melissa Anderson on participating in the Boston Marathon today!
She finished with a time of 3 hours and 28 minutes. How amazing!! We are so proud of her accomplishment, and of all the hard work she has put into preparing for this race. What a wonderful way to model fitness, tenacity, and goal setting for our children.
Awesome job, Melissa!
Trees are budding, blooming, and leafing out! As always, the Buckeye’s umbrella shaped leaves are the first to catch the sun’s rays in spring. The South Side garden is filled with bright and cheery daffodils. The North Side garden has native wildflowers, and Siberian Iris appearing through decomposing leaves. The peas we planted on St. Paddy’s day are up and doing very well in the vegetable garden. The asparagus is getting close to harvest, and tiny sprouts of lettuce and spinach are making their appearance. My small nature groups are preparing the vegetable beds, and planting something new every day.
The honey bees are busy flying out and bringing back nectar and pollen for the brood in the hives. I managed to observe the Queen Bee in the west hive last week; it made my day. FYI, May, 2nd we are planning an Overfield Spring Bee Fling, at 6pm. Tickets may be purchased online or in the Overfield Office.
After spending most of the winter under observation in the North Side nature room, the K/1 class took responsibility, and released Toadzilla back into the wild. The students decided the best habitat for the American Toad would be in the Hobart Preserve. We all said good bye and wished her a happy life.
This is an intended Pun: Heads Up! Ticks are out and about. I removed the first tick from the top of my head this week.
Get outside, and have fun!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Chipotle dine to donate evening last week. With your help we were able to raise $185.08 for our school! Many thanks to our OFP Fundraising Leads, Heather Krey and Olivia Hughes, for organizing another successful event.
