The Toddler class has a new deer feeder, which their families helped build and decorate. It is located under the blooming crabapple trees, and is easily observed from the wall of windows in the Toddler classroom. We have enjoyed watching the deer come for breakfast this winter. Now that native food is returning to the area, the feeding of corn to the deer will be discontinued for the summer. Feeding for our summer birds will also be cut back.
Thank you to the Overfield families, alumni, and friends who came together on Saturday to make our outdoor work day such a success. A special shout out to Allen Jones, who brought his trusty tractor, and moved large quantities of wood chips around the playground and property. The organic vegetable garden crew did major weeding, and distributed fresh gravel along the paths. By the end of the day, the spruced-up garden had new beds of Vidalia and red onions neatly tucked in. The Stephens family brought a power washer and circled the school, cleaning walls, windows, and sidewalks. The new fire pit took care of sticks and limbs. Overfield was abuzz with big and little projects.
Speaking of buzz…the Spring Bee Fling is Thursday, May 2nd from 6:00 to 8:30pm. We have a special evening planned: discussing honey bees, our apiary, pollinator gardens, and a DIY project to help promote our native bees. Tickets may be purchased at www.overfield.org for a price of $30:00.
