Great news–we made $595 from our Cassano’s Fundraiser! Thank you for your participation.
Our OFP Fundraising Co-Lead Natasha Miller will be putting the vouchers together today and distributing them Thursday and Friday. Thank you!
We want to sincerely thank everyone who donated to the Overfield #GivingTuesday campaign. With your help, we were able to raise $10,841 to kick off our Annual Fund campaign, and thus received our $10,000 match!
Our school exists because of the generosity of so many people. From the Hobart family to the many alumni of both the log cabin and the steel house; from our dedicated teachers to our volunteer board; from current parents and invested grandparents to community members who give to support meaningful education–YOU are the reason Overfield has been able to nurture children and families for almost 60 years.
We believe that children have a right to attend a school that honors childhood, one that sees children as competent and creative, that advocates for an education based on relationships. You make that vision a reality through your constant support, both through dollars and the gift of your time and words of encouragement. There are many things to be grateful for every day, and today we express our thankfulness for our community. WE are Overfield.
Did you know you can support Overfield just by doing things you already do?
Kroger has a wonderful program called Community Rewards, and it is very easy to sign up. Once you are signed up and select The Overfield School as your charity of choice, a percentage of every dollar you spend at Kroger comes back to Overfield! Check it out here.
Also, especially as the holidays approach, please remember to make sure you are signed into Amazon Smile when you are making your Amazon purchases!
Please choose Overfield as your charity of choice and Amazon will also kick back a percentage of your purchases to Overfield. It’s that simple!
Overfield also has an Amazon Wish List you can access if you are interested in contributing needed items versus dollars to the school. Thank you for your support of Overfield!
Since Thanksgiving, the Overfield School has been abuzz with Night Tree preparations. Children and teachers have planned and created the Gathering Place transformation. Allen Jones, board member and alumni parent, harvested native red cedar trees from his farm, and delivered them Friday morning. His annual gift helped create the canvas for our visiting woodland creations, which were designed and created by the students. A group of Overfield parents were here bright and early Friday morning to help us prepare for the traditional Gathering Place makeover and our woodland theater. For this we thank all of them. Teachers stepped in after school, as is tradition, to hang the moon and the stars, bringing the students hard work and creativity to life.
I recently spent special time with Jennifer, Heather, and the Toddlers searching for animal homes. The children found soft, fuzzy, furry stuffed animal imposters in various locations. The Toddlers had a grand time finding birds tucked in arborvitae shrubs; a squirrel peeking from a major hole in a maple tree; a fox hunkered down behind a pile of twigs; and a mother opossum with her baby hanging in an old honeysuckle. I always enjoy Toddlers wide-eyed, no nonsense questions, like: “Where do turtles go in Winter?” Toddlers are early thinkers, and knowledge sponges.
The North Side, Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students helped with corn popping last week. This event is always noisy, wild, fun, and necessary for creating animal treat garlands. North and South Side students have also been busy stringing popcorn, cheerios, apples, and cranberries; the sticky job of building pine cone, birdseed hangers are scheduled for this week; I am looking forward to assisting. All this industrious work by the children is for our Overfield family’s participation in the Night Tree celebration.

Thank you, Muse Machine!
We are thrilled to share that The Overfield School has been awarded a full scholarship for our Studio Artist, Elizabeth Perry, to attend Muse Machine’s Advanced Teacher Training Seminar (ATTS) in June 2020. Our commitment to Muse Machine’s Preschool & Elementary Program qualified us for this amazing scholarship.
The seminar will take place Tuesday, June 2, to Sunday, June 7, 2020 in New York City. Attendees will experience world-renowned arts venues, workshops, and conversations with working artists. In honor of Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday, this year’s ATTS will celebrate the American musical.
We can’t wait to see the learning that will be brought back to be used with the children of Overfield!
This Friday and Saturday we were fortunate enough to have Louise and Ashley Cadwell from Cadwell Collaborative conduct professional development with our teachers, board, and founder. This was a wonderful couple of days thinking about our next steps with our Primary grades, brainstorming how to improve the depth and quality of our Preschool and Toddler programs, and refining our focus around our roles as educators and supporters of the school. We are honored to be a part of a program that values continuous professional development, and to have dedicated teachers and board members who are willing to give of their time to improve their practice!
Thank you, once again, to the members of our Overfield Family Partnership, for working with us to support our school! Many parents assisted with Night Tree set up on Friday and with bringing food in for dinner for the teachers afterward.
We have the best group of parents around–thank you for all you do!
