Spring Night Hike
Friday, May 13th from 6:30-8 p.m.
We hope you will join us this Friday for our annual spring Night Hike, hosted by our K/1 and 2nd/3rd grade classes!
All families are invited to an informative walk to learn about a diverse array of topics related to the campus of Overfield. Find out about some of the local animals that call our campus home, and explore some of the history of this land. After your hike join your friends at the fire pit to roast marshmallows and enjoy a lovely spring evening outdoors.
We hope to see you there!
We are thrilled to be welcoming the Guitar Man, Jim McCutcheon, as a visiting artist the week of May 16th! Many thanks to the Ohio Arts council for helping to provide this opportunity, where the children will get to learn all about the guitar, as well as about stringed instruments from all over the world.
There will be an outdoor concert with Jim on the main playground on Thursday, May 19th, at 6:30 p.m., following the OFP End of Year Picnic. We hope to see you all there!
Hello Families!
The Overfield organic veggie garden is coming along nicely, and I know it’s going to grow like crazy with next week’s heat! Robin and the children have been busy amending soil, planting, weeding, and tasting the goodies that have popped up so far! (My daughter Vera often gets in the car at noon smelling strongly of the chives she has munched.?) Starting 5/10, I will be working in the garden on Tuesdays 8:45-10a.m. Please stop by and enjoy a cup of coffee, admire the sprouts, pull a few weeds, and get to know this beautiful place on our campus.
Last summer, several families, and even neighbors and grandparents, signed up to help keep our garden thriving and producing throughout the summer. By August, it was a beautiful space in which children could learn and snack when they returned to school.
This year we would love to welcome even more families to join our 2022 Garden Crew community and help out. Below you’ll find a link to sign up to help keep our garden amazing all summer long. The benefits to you, your family, and our community are numerous:
Meet new friends and participate in the Overfield community
Learn new skills and/or share the gardening knowledge you possess
The garden space itself is beautiful, as is the surrounding flora and fauna
Watch things grow and bloom both in the veggie garden and in the adjacent pollinator garden
Enjoy the organic veggies of our collective labor
Kids are fascinated by the worms, rolly-pollies, frogs, toads, deer, and water, of course!
The gate locks, which is helpful for containing kiddos
If you have time in the early morning, come before it gets hot and enjoy a peaceful start to your day
Feel free to contact me with any questions, and thanks to those of you who’ve already communicated about joining our 2022 Garden Crew!

Take me out to the ballgame!! The Overfield School has been offered an opportunity to hold a fundraising event with The Dayton Dragons! We have secured Lawn Area B for the Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 game for our school to have a community evening. Come join friends, family, classmates, teachers, and Overfield School administrators for a fun night out at the Dragons ballpark. Game starts at 7:05pm, with gates opening at 6:00pm. Tickets are $10 each and $3 from every ticket sold will go back to Overfield. Tickets can be purchased online or you can fill out the attached form and submit it to our Dayton Dragons representative, Carl Hertzberg.
As of now, this entire lawn area will be just for our Overfield Families! ?? We have already sold out all our first round of tickets, so the Dragons’ coordinator has opened up 75 more tickets for our group. I don’t expect them to last long! If you are wanting to join our community night, our link to buy will close on May 20th. Hope you can all join us to kick off our summer fun! Please feel free to reach out to OFP if you have any questions.
A Message from OFP…
It has been a truly wonderful year, and in three short weeks, we will officially be finished with this 2021-2022 school year at Overfield! Hopefully we will see each other over the summer, and perhaps will come back together next year as our kiddos move on to other Overfield classes.
Thursday, May 19th, at 5:30pm the OFP will be hosting our final event of the year. Join your fellow Overfield families for a picnic on the playground in celebration of the end of the school year and our residency with one of our favorite visiting artists, Jim McCutcheon! Bring a blanket/chairs and come and join for conversation and community. The OFP will have Chic-Fil-A sandwiches, hotdogs, chips, fruit, and drinks available for a donation. Feel free to pack your own picnic for your family if you would prefer! The celebration concert with Jim McCutcheon will be immediately following at 6:30pm.
We hope to see you there,
Kara Barnhart
OFP Chair
