Parent-Teacher Conferences

November 9-10, 2021

Parent-Teacher Conferences are fast approaching! Our teachers have been preparing to meet with you by diligently observing each child, and creating photo files and portfolio pages that will be used to support discussion with you during your scheduled conference time next week.

These Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, November 9 and all day Thursday, November 10.

There will be NO OVERFIELD CLASSES on November 10th as parents meet with teachers. You should have received an electronic link via email where you can reserve your meeting time with one of your child’s teachers. These meetings will take place in person, unless an online meeting is specially requested.

This Parent-Teacher Conference time is for adults only. It is a time allotted for us to discuss your child’s progress, and since it is not appropriate to discuss a child in his/her presence unless you are talking to that child, please make sure you make other child care arrangements for your child during this meeting. Children may not be unattended in the building during these conferences, as this poses a safety concern.

Each conference will be 30 minutes in length, and it is important we stay on schedule. We will discuss our observations about your child and any questions or thoughts you have for us. If you feel more time is needed, we can immediately schedule another conference for another date.

We are looking forward to meeting with you all, and discussing all of the wonderful children we are fortunate to spend time with at Overfield!

Fireside Talk

Join the Overfield Family Partnership and Program Lead, Beth Poronsky for a “Fireside Talk” following drop off on Thursday, November 18th.

We will meet at the Overfield Fire Pit in the meadow for conversation, community and a nature hike in the preserve. Feel free to bring a camp chair for our Fire Pit time. We will also provide coffee to sip to keep us warm.

We will head into the preserve for our nature walk sometime after 9:15 to ensure that everyone has time to drop off their kiddos. All are welcome to join, including little ones.

Please feel free to bring questions for our Fireside time. Samples include: reducing screen time, tips on exploring nature as a family, questions about the school year or OFP, did your child do “xyz” at this age, bringing the Reggio philosophy into home life, etc.

We hope that you are able to join us! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to familypartnership@overfield.org. Hope to see you there!

Kara Barnhart – OFP Chair

We are so excited for our second week with Beth Wright, Visiting Artist from Muse Machine!

After a week of moving, dancing, formulating rhythms, and pairing literacy and math concepts with movement, we can’t wait to see what this week holds!

Beth is a preschool and elementary artist from Muse Machine. According to the Muse Machine website, “Beth Wright is a dancer, choreographer and educator of dance. A former member of the Dayton favorite Rhythm in Shoes and currently affiliated with Puddingstone Project, she has performed for audiences and taught dancers of all ages nationwide. Beth is comfortable with all grade levels and is particularly fond of working with early childhood. One of her favorite Muse experiences was as an artist and project administrator for PNC’s project, For Me, For You, For Later, which taught basic financial education to pre-kindergarten students throughout Dayton Metro Libraries and area preschools.

Arts Integration with Beth
Beth uses movement, rhythm, choreography and improvisation to allow the students to view and experience state curriculum in a unique way. Integrating dance into the curriculum allows the students to learn through multiple senses. It also deepens the learning experience and the comprehension of the material. Getting up and moving is a fun way to learn and to make the lesson “stick!'”

Many thanks to the Ohio Arts Council, whose grant support makes this program possible!

Please join us in continuing to extend our hospitality to Beth!

Safety Considerations at Arrival and Dismissal

Please make sure to observe the following safety protocols while dropping off and picking up children at Overfield:

Observe the speed limit of 10 mph on the lane and in the front circle.
Please don’t park in the area immediately around the corner coming up the lane. This is designated with a yellow painted curb.
Avoid parking at the end of the lane by the K/1 building, making sure to leave ample room for cars to turn around in this area.
Please pull to the side when dropping off or picking up children, including in the front circle. This is important in order to maintain a good traffic flow.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work together to keep all children safe!

Cold Weather Reminders

Although we’ve enjoyed an amazingly beautiful and warm fall so far, we know that winter weather could be looming around the corner! Please be advised that the children will play outside as long as temperatures are 20 degrees or above. In order to enjoy the outdoors they need to come equipped with heavy coats, hats and gloves, as well as snow boots/pants in snowy weather. Also, please make sure that your child’s extra clothes are appropriate for cold weather.

With the chances for winter weather becoming more possible as we’ve turned the page to November, we wanted to remind everyone to please use caution when driving on the hill to or from school. This is pre-treated when winter weather is anticipated, and plowed and salted as soon as possible. Even when treated the hill can be slippery, so please be aware and take the proper precautions when driving in snow or ice.

Overfield families will be notified via One Call Now by 6:30 a.m. if classes are cancelled due to inclement weather. Information may also be found by watching or logging on to the local news, WHIO Channel 7. We do have a delay policy; if we are delayed, it will be a 2 hour delay. In this case, Toddlers and Before Care will be closed. School would open at 10:30am. and morning classes would still dismiss at noon, as usual.

We encourage you to use your own discretion when needed. Your safety is always first priority. Bundle up and stay warm, everyone!
