The Autumn at Overfield festival was the catalyst needed to bring the spirit of fall to our back door. The temperatures felt cool and crisp on Saturday, and Mother nature threw in just the right amount of toasty sunshine to create a perfect outdoor experience. The evening festival was filled with creative activities, games, hayrides, a nature discovery table, tours of the vegetable garden, apiary, a bonfire, and a pumpkin glow. There was something of interest for everyone.
This past week parents and children could be seen busily working in the Overfield garden weeding, harvesting, and planting fall crops. Erin Barsotti created a hearty soup from our Overfield garlic, onion and sweet potato crops. She presented it Saturday evening at the annual chili cook off. It was served alongside crock pots lined up and filled with competitive tasty homemade soups and chilies.
We are still adding different trees and shrubs to the Bird Hide area and gardens. The children assisted in digging holes and planting three new apple trees in the little orchard. Acorns and buckeyes are also being planted by some of our (I hope) future dendrologists.
FYI, one worker honeybee manages to produce 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in her lifetime. Honey graciously donated by the honeybees residing in our Overfield apiary is now on sale. We have 16-ounce jars available in the school store. How many worker bees are needed to create 16-ounces of honey?

Please turn in your Box Tops by October 25th!
There are collection containers in the Gathering Place, or these can be turned in to any office communication basket.
And, did you know, the Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn money for our school. Over the summer, participating brands have begun to change their packaging from the traditional Box Tops clip-out coupon to the new Box Tops label. Going forward, instead of clipping from packages and checking expiration dates, all Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt.
The Box Tops for Education team has worked hard to build an improved, user-friendly Box Tops mobile app, which is available now. The new app features technology that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products, and instantly add Box Tops to our school’s earnings online. If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school by October 25th. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, you can “double dip” during the packaging transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products.
When you sign up for the app, please look for “Overfield Early Childhood Program” to make sure your donation goes to Overfield. Thank you!
What a beautiful afternoon at Autumn at Overfield! We hope you all had a wonderful time. With your support, we raised around $1000 for our school! Many thanks to all of our Volunteers-we couldn’t do it without you!
Thank you to everyone who came to class meetings! We had two wonderful evenings of dialogue and relationship building. We truly value the voice of parents–thank you for being a part of shaping our community!
